Where to go hiking in Australia

With endless coastlines, powdery red deserts, ancient rainforests, and flora and fauna found nowhere else on earth, hiking in Australia attracts visitors from around the world. In 2015 alone, 5.5 million people went bushwalking in the state of New South Wales alone.

Just how much space is there to explore as a hiker? Well, the following countries could all fit into a jigsaw of the Australian continent:

South Africa, Austria, Denmark, South Korea, Switzerland, Italy, East Timor, Japan, Greece, Belgium, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Portugal, Britain, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Thailand, Taiwan, Israel, Iceland, and Denmark.

So, it's fair to say there is plenty of space for hiking. What are you waiting for? Lace up and check out some of the best hikes in Australia below.

Note: Australian bushfires over 2019/20 have devastated farmland, infrastructure, entire towns and swathes of national parkland across the country. Some of the hikes mentioned in these posts have been dramatically damaged by these fires. Please help those communities most affected by making a donation to Australia Red Cross.
