Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good overall but missing critical features This is a nice backpack with various options, could be even called modular. Unfortunately, for me it was way too heavy and the lack of external access was a deal breaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely versatile! Purchased this bag in July for a trip to the Philippines over the rainy season. The configuration of the zips is great because it can be opened like a suitcase, however having the ability to quickly open from the top is amazing too. The adjustable straps are great for making the bag smaller for shorter trips to take it on carry on, or can be used full size as check-in. I'm a female and it is very comfortable, sits well on the shoulders, and can be adjusted with the buckles and straps at the waist for a better fit. Unfortunately not waterproof, however you can easily buy a cover for it. Overall it's an incredible bag, and I'd recommend to anyone going backpacking!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great combo of a travel pack I found this to be a perfect combo for my needs! I'm usually a light packer using a bag thats around 35l and have done 2 months the longest .I had been searching for a 50l for longer travel next year but opinions either sat on either side of the fence of 'travel pack' vs 'hiking pack'. I bought the women's fit and tried it recently on a 6 week trip (i wouldn't normally use a bag as big as this for this timeframe). pros - size was one factor so the exapandable option was perfect. i can pack light without worrying and have space for things i buy later! - sleek design, love the green colour, and that the size is in the length rather than extending outwards - i don't like checking in unless i have to, it fit perfectly in the overhead carry on compartments but not super comfortably under the seat in front of you (i'm short so of course i still tried). - you have the convenience of the luggage open style but also the open sack hiking style too so you can still pack the weight correctly in your bag from the top. - clean front, the zips are all around your back area so you dont have to worrying if someone is trying to sneakily try to open a pocket without you knowing! - i hate straps everywhere so i really liked how there was a strap cover. cons (?) - the small buckles at the bottom only stay locked in its 28l state, in the 38l state they kept falling out and flopping around since there is no tightening strap on them, this annoys me. - even though there are top and side handles on this bag, i did see airport staff pick the entire weight of the bag by the tightening strap that holds the 'lid' down ): - I find the strap cover a very tight fit, regardless if the bag is empty or full and no matter how i try to position the straps which leaves me wondering about the longevity of stitching. overall i find the bag quite sturdy, and suits my needs perfectly with the expandable design and incorporating both luggage opening and sack opening designs together

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent bag, some features sub-standard Love the pack. The press studs at the top of the pack (which allow the 50l option) are plastic and broke first use. Kathmandu replaced the pack, however, I’m not convinced it won’t just happen again. For a critical feature like this they should’ve used heady duty metal studs. Otherwise, my favourite pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent One Bag Travel Bag I researched so many bags before making this purchase that I never want to research bags again, and based on the product, should never have to! I'll start by saying that beyond checking what feels like every bag website out ever made, I watched almost all of Chase Reeves Youtube reviews of potential bags. Right as we were about to purchase the Kathmandu Litehaul 38L from the US Kathmandu website, (we live in the US), one he did not review but his reviews helped me narrow it down, I accidentally stumbled across the Australian Kathmandu website where I found the Federate Adapt Pack which must have only been available for less than a week at the time, we purchased it and have been extremely happy with the purchase. This was at the top end of our price range but ticked all the boxes and more, it's come down in price since so is even better than before. We were looking for a comfortable backpack with proper hiking straps, back ventilation and waist padding that could be stowed away, this has that. The bag has a great shoulder strap that you can also stow away. We were also looking for a suitcase style opening with strong big YKK zippers, this has that. We were looking for an aesthetically pleasing bag, this bag is truly a good looking bag, in any form of expansion, 28L, 38L and 50L. The fact that it has a 15" laptop compartment that is against the internal frame is excellent. The back frame is also made of a lightweight metal and the padding is fantastic, so this distributes the weight onto your hips very well. We have so far only used this on a week long trip to Colombia, and weren't travelling as light as we could, so we also had messenger bags for our day to day stuff. The Federate Adapt Pack was great, it was the messenger bags that got in the way and made our shoulders ache. I would definitely consider purchasing the backpack that clips onto the front that Kathmandu offer, the Litehaul 12L for future trips to resolve this. The only possible gripe I would have about the bag is that it only has two small external side pockets, which are good for drink bottles or small documents/headphones. Another pocket across the top for documents would have been very easy to add in and would be a great addition for future releases. It also has a removable liner bag, which we considered leaving at home but were grateful to take with us as we did use it to leave some stuff in a hostel, while we took the actual bag on a two day trip. Having this functionality really helped. This bag is genuinely excellent, we only utilized it in the 28L and 38L modes, and in the 38L it fits perfectly into overhead storage compartments on airplanes, the 50L would have me a little concerned but I didn't try this so can't comment. The stitching is still all in one piece even after really packing it out and throwing it around, there are a few areas where you can see some black strands between stitches but I don't feel as though this is going to fray at all, something I'll keep an eye on however. The live chat team, when I could get the time zone right, were fantastic with one of your employee's literally driving to a store to answer a question I had about the bag. International Shipping was included due to the cost, and the bags arrived from Australia, within 4 days, outstanding. I've added three pictures of the female version of the bag, which is almost identical except for the strap shape/size and the colour. At the current price, if you can afford it, it's better than anything else I looked at, but that's just my opinion!
